IVC veterinary practices across the UK take part in Doddie Aid

25 January 2024

Over 30 IVC veterinary practices are taking part in Doddie Aid 2024, for them ‘Doggie Aid’ really is every day!

This is all being championed by IVC Kilbarchan vet Beth Sweeney, who started supporting My Name’5 Doddie Foundation after her Mum was diagnosed with MND, she told us: “We first became involved in the MND community when my Mum, Christine was diagnosed with the condition in 2016. She was determined to not be defined by the disease and had a very similar strength and attitude to that of Doddie, who she greatly admired. She was an inspiration to those around her and her sense of humour and determination kept us all positive during the highs and lows.

My mum passed away in February 2020 and my family and I have continued to support the cause in various fundraising ways.

Last year we organised a Doddie Aid league between 10 local vet practices. It was such a success that we decided to rerun it this year and hopefully again in years to come. We now have 30 practices playing and over 300 participants!

We have been using social media to allow practices and participants to talk and post pictures of their activities and at the end of each week we announce the latest league positions. We have also made prizes for other competitions throughout the challenge such as youngest player, best dressed dog and furthest travelled snood.

We have tried to encourage as many different activities as possible, the highlight for us so far was the New Years Day Dip at Mugdock park with Glasgow Team Captain Eilidh Barbour and Xander Fagerson. The competition is fierce in our house though. My husband, Willie is competing in a rival league!”

We love hearing all about what you’re all up to this Doddie Aid. Looking for fundraising inspiration? Visit our fundraising hub.
